Don’t lie; when you take that picture of the Eiffel Tower, we all know you’re looking to get the most possible likes on Instagram. The only problem is, there are so many pictures of the Eiffel Tower on Instagram – how are you going to make your travel photos stand out?
This problem is obviously seen with every picture of a landmark. The Leaning Tower of Pisa, Big Ben, Stonehenge, Niagara Falls, every tourist landmark has been photographed probably upwards of a million times. You obviously don’t want just another lame half-assed picture of the Eiffel Tower, you want to be outstanding. So how do you do it? Well, using the Eiffel Tower as an example, here are five different tips to help your travel pictures stand out.
1. Shoot it from a different angle
Everyone and their mother’s pug takes a picture of the Eiffel Tower from the front. Why would you follow in their foot steps? Walk to the left or right or get up right underneath and take a picture from a unique angle that many other people rarely take it at.
2. Shoot it at a different time of day
You’re probably aware that most Eiffel Tower pictures are taken during the day, because that’s when people are outside touring about. So try a different time of day, like dawn, dusk, or night! The sky is especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset which can add a beautiful touch to your picture.

3. Shoot from a different location
You know that grassy field right next to the Eiffel Tower? Yeah you do, because that’s where everyone takes their pictures from! Don’t follow the crowd, try snapping a pic from a nearby cafe, or a far away cafe, or a boat on the Seine, or from behind an ornate fence. These will make your pictures stand out from all the rest of the people who were too lazy to walk more than a few steps.
4. Change the subject
Don’t make the Eiffel Tower the subject of the photo, instead, focus on something in front of it and let the Eiffel Tower fade into the background for a subtle shot that still lets everyone know exactly where you are.
5. Shoot during a special event
What can flaunt the fact that your pic is special more than the fact that it was taken on an occasion that only happens once a year? Granted, your shot won’t be any more special to Parisians, who no doubt have seen 1000 similar pictures of the Eiffel Tower on Bastille Day, but your friends at home will surely be jealous!
Obviously, it’s also probably going to work better if you combine multiple tips. If you can somehow manage to capture the Eiffel Tower on Bastille Day during the fireworks from a unique angle somewhere far away with yourself in the foreground, then you’ve won Instagram.
