Brunch is the best meal of the day, and no one does brunch quite like the Australians. Luckily, you don’t have to fly halfway around the world for your Australian brunch fix, as there are plenty of Australian cafes in NYC! Here is a list of the best of them.
Charley St
Charley St in Nolita has got the cutest storefront that opens up to the street in the summer months. Additionally, they have BYOB – build your own bowls. Choose from a base of toast or grains, then add greens, spreads, protein and two toppings. Top it all off with your choice of sauce and you’ve got yourself a custom, delicious, and healthy Australian brunch bowl!
Good Thanks
Good Thanks is a rather new Australian cafe tucked away in the Lower East Side next to Russ & Daughters. Frequented by Aussie celebrities in NYC like Ronny Chieng from Crazy Rich Asians (who I actually saw in the cafe!), you can be assured that this place is legit. Their specialties include their Kimchi Scrambled Eggs, which is an amazing combination of foods that I can’t believe I have never tasted before, and their Blue Bowl, which is tinted with Spirulina and tastes absolutely heavenly.
Citizens of
Citizens Of has many locations and all of them are equally stunning, plants galore, neon signs, and all of them serve similar delicious Australian brunch. Whether you’re in Chelsea, Gramercy, Bleecker St, or Soho I highly recommend heading over. Must-trys include their avocado toast and shakshuka!
Ruby’s
Ruby’s has taken the internet by storm this past year with three locations around the city and an endless waitlist, and it’s easy to see why. Their food is amazing, both their brunch and dinner options, and the design is extremely instagram-worthy.
Sonnyboy
Sonnyboy is a more lowkey version of Ruby’s, with delicious seasonal fare for brunch, lunch, and dinner! The cocktails are also a must-try. Be sure to get the burrata fig toast or the harissa folded eggs – two of their best-sellers.
Hole in the Wall
This gorgeous Australian cafe has a more modern feel than the others on this list! With three locations around the city, Hole in the Wall truly lives up to its name as a more well-kept secret than larger and more famous chains. The food, however, is still amazing.
Merriweather
This lowkey cafe is more of a local spot than the other’s on this list. Still, that’s to say nothing about the quality of the food and coffee here, both of which are still top notch. When I went, there was even a line down the sidewalk for to go coffees and food!
Two Hands
Two Hands is one of the most famous Australian brunch places in NYC – with two locations one in Nolita and one in Tribeca, it’s Tribeca location is famous on Instagram for its bathrooms which have neon signs for the ladies and gentlemen respectively. Other than the instagrammable bathrooms, the food is also phenomenal and really good for you!
Outro
Located in the East Village near Union Square, Outro is one of my new favorite Australian cafes. As usual, the decor is flawless, but Outro also has a hidden outdoor patio in the back! Outro is also famous for its combo dishes, served in little wooden “boats,” so that no matter what you order, you’ll get a little bit of everything.
Bluestone Lane
Bluestone Lane is probably the biggest Australian cafe chain in NYC, with many locations scattered around the city. Although they’re all different, they all have amazing clean, minimalist decor. The food options are just as delicious as they are gorgeous.
