Even though I’d been to China, stepping foot into Japan was quite the culture shock. Despite what people think, the two are not very similar. Instead of being able to decipher most of what people were saying, I was instead totally lost. Figuratively and literally. That first night, my family and I spent an entire two hours trying to figure out how to get to our hotel on the metro (note to self: look up which metro stop your hotel is next to before you leave the airport and are stuck without internet). One unfortunate miscommunication which involved trying to check into the wrong hotel later, we finally figured it out, and I could begin to appreciate the rich culture of Japan (with a subway map this time). So here’s a photo-diary of my four days in Tokyo, Japan.
